Cambridge AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership

Governing the Cambridge AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership

Governance of the Cambridge AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership is a matter for three bodies.

1. Steering Committee

The Cambridge AHRC DTP Steering Committee will have strategic oversight of the Cambridge AHRC DTP.

Membership

The Cambridge AHRC DTP Steering Committee will consist of the Heads of the Schools of Arts and Humanities and Humanities and Social Sciences (or their nominated deputies) and six nominated members. The Board will be representative of the academic subject spread in the Cambridge AHRC DTP. The members will comprise:

• Head of School of Arts and Humanities (or nominated deputy)

• Head of School of Humanities and Social Sciences (or nominated deputy)

• 2 members nominated by the Council of the School of Arts and Humanities

• 2 members nominated by the Council of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences

• A representative from the DTP training partners

• A representative from the University Careers Service

• 2 student members

One of the non-student members will be the DTP Director and will serve as Chair of the Steering Committee. The standard membership term for non-student members will be up to three years.

Meetings and role of members

The Steering Committee will meet at least once per term.

Members are required to attend meetings and to be actively engaged in supporting the effective management of the Doctoral Training Partnership via input to the Steering Committee meetings. There will be sub-groups, e.g. the Studentship Selection Board; a training planning group that will require occasional attendance/input from Steering Committee members as appropriate.

Reporting

The Steering Committee will produce an annual report, to be received by the graduate committees of the Schools of Arts and Humanities and Humanities and Social Sciences and the Board of Graduate Studies.

2. Studentship Selection Board

Decisions on the award of doctoral studentships will be made annually by the Cambridge AHRC DTP Studentship Selection Board.

Membership

The Cambridge AHRC DTP Studentship Selection Board will consist of the DTP Director, two other members of the Steering Committee and four nominated members. The Board will be representative of the academic subject spread in the Cambridge AHRC DTP. The members will comprise:

• DTP Director

• 2 non-student members of the Steering Committee

• 2 members nominated by the Council of the School of Arts and Humanities

• 2 members nominated by the Council of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences

The standard membership term will be for three years.

Meetings and role of members

The Student Selection Board will meet twice per year in February and March. The first meeting will be to discuss the process of selection, the second meeting to decide studentship allocations.

Members are required, in brief, to attend meetings, discuss and agree working methods/process, review the Degree Committee ranked lists, review candidate applications, discuss and agree the award of studentships.

3. Operational Group

The Cambridge AHRC DTP Operational Group is responsible for the operational management of the AHRC DTP.
